Construction Update June 29th, 2017

Work continues! The contractor will be pouring stamped concrete sections in the sidewalks beginning Friday, June 30th at 5:00 a.m. through 9:00 a.m. They will have two crews on site to expedite the work. Traffic along Main Street will be detoured to  Acme, Norcross Lane, and back to Main Street.

There will not be construction work occurring on Monday, July 3rd in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

City of Oakley Seeks Applicants for the Contra Costa Transportation Authority Citizens Advisory Committee

The Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) maintains a standing Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) to provide citizen perspective, participation and involvement in the CCTA’s Transportation Expenditure Plan and Growth Management Program.

To become a member of the CAC, you must reside within the City of Oakley and the Oakley City Council must take formal action to confirm your membership on the Committee. Appointees serve at the will and pleasure of the Oakley City Council and are required to provide the Oakley City Council quarterly updates, preferably at its Council meetings.

CAC meetings are scheduled for the fourth Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the CCTA’s Walnut Creek offices at 2999 Oak Road, Suite 100. CAC members are appointed to serve for a four-year term (the next term commencing August 12, 2017) without compensation from either the CCTA or the City of Oakley. Members will, however, receive reimbursement from the CCTA for travel expenses to and from the CAC meetings.  More information regarding transportation projects and programs can be found by visiting the CCTA website at

Construction Update- June 19th, 2017

You may have noticed that construction crews have started work on the new medians on Main Street. Tomorrow, Tuesday, they will be pouring concrete curbs, beginning at 4:00 a.m. in order for it to have cured properly amid this hot temperature. It is expected that median-related work will take about 4 hours each day and be completed before 8:00 a.m. in advance of the traffic picking up.

Due to the temperatures well above 100 degrees, the contractor will be monitoring all the trenches on Main Street to make sure that the temporary asphalt patches are stable and make touch-ups as needed.

Please be advised that beginning on Tuesday, June 20th Main Street will be closed from Norcross Lane to O’Hara Ave from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The street closure will allow for the contractor to excavate foundations for the new street lights in this section of downtown. This work is being performed at night to minimize traffic impacts to the public. Pedestrian access will be provided to all properties along the project route during this work. Notification flyers have been distributed to all properties along this section of downtown.

Downtown Construction Update

As part of the Main Street renovation project, the contractor will be pouring concrete for sidewalks on Main Street, from Norcross Lane moving east on Wednesday  (June 14th) and Thursday (June 15th) mornings beginning at 4:00 a.m. This will allow the concrete to set before the heat of the day. At night, the contractor will also be working on final grading of the site and installing irrigation and electrical conduits in the new median islands.

Downtown Construction Update

The construction of the downtown project is moving forward at a fast pace.

Starting Monday, June 5th, 2017 the day operations will include installation of new sidewalks on Main Street. Concurrent with this work, the contractor for Nature Properties, a private development project site located on the north side of Main Street between 2nd Street and 5th Street, will also be installing the dry utilities to the site.

Night work beginning on Monday, June 5th, 2017 will include placing the leveling course of new asphalt on Main Street and excavation of the street, in preparation for the construction of the new median islands that will be located between Norcross Lane to 2nd Street. This will be a prominent feature of the project we are excited for.

While up until now, most of the work has not been very visible to the public, having taken place behind the safety barriers, soon the new features will become more obvious to the public.

Now Accepting Library Commission Applications

The term of the current appointee to the Contra Costa County Library Commission will expire June 30, 2017. The City of Oakley is accepting applications for an appointee and an alternate for the next two-year term until Monday, June 19, 2017 at 6pm. Applications will be considered by the Oakley City Council on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at its regularly scheduled meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall located at 3231 Main Street, Oakley, California. Applicants are encouraged to attend as they may be interviewed by the City Council.

The Commission currently meets every other month, beginning in January, on the fourth Thursday evening at 7pm in Martinez.
