First off, operating a business in the City requires the payment of a Business License Tax and compliance with the City’s Municipal Code, including the Zoning Code. In addition, to conduct a business from your home requires you meet certain eligibility requirements and obtain a Home Occupation Permit.
Both of these applications are available for download on-line at Business License Information and Application.

OBDC Small Business Finance offers a variety of commercial loans to startup and existing businesses. For over 30 years, the organization has financed firms in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, and Solano counties with an emphasis on Oakland-based businesses.
