On Tuesday, August 7th the City of Oakley will be joining forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “29th Annual National Night Out” crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the City of Oakley will involve over 15,325 communities in 50 states, US territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.

National Night Out is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
  • Generate support for, and participation in local anticrime efforts
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

On August 7th residents are invited to attend the National Night Out event at Oakley Civic Center Plaza located at 3231 Main Street starting at 5:00pm. This event is designed to educate the public about National Night Out and encourage residents to plan a National Night Out event in their own neighborhoods in 2013.

There will be a variety of activities including child fingerprinting, K-9 demos, games and jump houses. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be available for sale. Also on site will be representatives from CERT, the Oakley Police Department, the American Red Cross and Contra Costa Search and Rescue.
