The City of Oakley currently utilizes an at-large election system, which means that the electors from the entire City choose each of the five Councilmembers. The Councilmembers are eligible to hold office no matter where in the City they reside. A district-based election system, in contrast, is one in which the City is delineated into separate districts, each with one councilmember who resides in the district and is chosen by the electors residing in that particular district.
Last month, Oakley’s City Council adopted a resolution of the intention to transition from At-Large Elections to District-Based Elections for City Council with five districts. This process is called “districting.”
Please note that we are currently going through the initial “Districting” process that will ultimately take the 2022 and 2024 elections to be fully implemented.
The next districting meeting is Tuesday, August 31st at 6:30 p.m. This meeting will be live-streamed on the City’s website at www.oakleyinfo.com.
, there will be a call in line for
this meeting only.
