The Oakley General Municipal Election for City Council will be held November 8, 2022, for the following offices: One (1) Council Member from District 2 and one (1) Council Member from District 4, each for a term of four years.
The City of Oakley has five districts. Districts allow voters an opportunity to be represented by a City Council Member in their respective district. Voters are not eligible to vote for City Council candidates outside of the district in which they reside. Voting districts are reviewed every ten years following the U.S. Census. During the November 8, 2022 election, one candidate each from District 2 and District 4 will be elected. One candidate each from Districts 1, 3 and 5 will be elected in 2024. Councilmembers currently serving will complete their respective terms. Shannon Shaw qualified as a candidate for District 4. When only one candidate is qualified for a district, the City Council may appoint the candidate or direct to hold an election for that district. If the candidate is appointed, no write-in candidates are allowed. If an election is held, write-in candidates are allowed. The Oakley City Council directed to hold an election for District 4; therefore, an election will be held for District 2 and District 4, allowing for write-in candidates in each district.

Interested persons should contact the City Clerk’s Office as early as possible to schedule an appointment to obtain and file papers and qualify to be a write-in candidate. Only votes cast for qualified write-in candidates are reported.
Interested persons must be registered to vote and reside within the district they are running for office (either District 2 or District 4) within the City of Oakley and obtain a minimum of 20 valid signatures (maximum of 30 valid signatures) on the Write-In Nomination Paper issued by the City Clerk’s office, along with other papers.
