Anniversary Parade

The City of Oakley’s 25th Anniversary parade is an event for all families, neighborhood groups, businesses and organizations to come together and celebrate our City. The parade rout runs down Main Street beginning at 5th Street and ending at Civic Center Plaza. Community members are invited to participate in the parade with floats, classic cars or as part of a performing group, band, dance team, or walking group. If you or your organization are interested in participating, please register before May 15th. There is no entry fee but space is limited. Movies in the Plaza

This season’s Movie in the Plaza series will feature hit films from every 5 years of the Oakley’s cityhood.

June 8 – Tarzan (1999)
July 27 – The Incredibles (2004)
August 17 – Up (2009)
September 7 – The Lego Movie (2014)
October 12 – Toy Story 4 (2019) @ Oakley Recreation Center

Join us at Civic Center Park before the movie for giant Jenga, corn hole, glitter tattoos, music and more! The free games and fun will begin at 7pm at Civic Center Plaza, the movie will begin at dark. Oakley Recreation will be selling popcorn, candy and soda in the snack shack located behind the stage. The final movie, Toy Story 4, will have a special indoor showing at the Oakley Recreation Center.

Celebrate the City of Oakley’s 25th anniversary with us by visiting a few of our popular parks and spaces. At each location, you can find a frame painted by local organizations and artists for you and your family to take photos with. There is a secret word on the back of each frame. Write the word you find in that park’s box. Some letters have a symbol. Write that letter on the line with the matching symbol at the bottom of the page to spell out or City’s name!

Visit all the locations and turn in your completed worksheet to the Recreation Center to enter a special raffle! This event will be ongoing through June and July. Don’t forget to tag us in your photos using our frames on Facebook and Instagram @oakleyrecreation.

Who Want’s to be a Millionaire

In 1999, The ABC network premiered a new type of game show starring Regis Philbin that would take the country by storm. “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” was first aired on August 16th (not long after the City of Oakley incorporated) and drew over 30 million viewers per night. In celebration of the City of Oakley’s 25th Anniversary we will be hosting our own “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” event during intermission of the Concert in the Park on September 6th in Civic Center Plaza. Two contestants will be chosen to answer trivia questions centered around the year 1999 and City of Oakley history with the chance to win a variety of prizes.
