City of Oakley Climate Action Plan (CAP)

On March 14, 2024, the City Council adopted a resolution authorizing and directing the City Manager to enter into a Professional Services Agreement with Cumming Management Group, Inc. related to development of the City of Oakley Climate Action Plan.  That development is now underway and will include public work shops with the consultants and City Staff, as well as public work sessions with the Planning Commission and City Council.

The Climate Action Plan (or “CAP”) is an adopted document that lays out a plan for how an agency will aim to reduce greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions, usually through decarbonization and greening efforts.

The first public work shop is scheduled for November 18th, 6:00 P.M. at the Oakley Recreation Center, located at 1250 O’Hara Avenue, Oakley, CA 94561.

Stay tuned and check back occasionally for more information on next steps.

Organic Waste Management

Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery (MDRR) and the City of Oakley continue to partner on the implementation of Senate Bill 1383, Short-lived climate pollutants. SB 1383 went into effect on January 1, 2022, and makes it mandatory for every city in California to provide organics recycling. Organics recycling includes food scraps, food-soiled paper, and yard waste.

The intent of SB 1383 is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by diverting food waste from being landfilled. Organics recycling is now mandatory for businesses and residences, unless eligible for a waiver.

Educational materials and Frequently Asked Questions are available through MDRR’s website
